WOODY PLANT LEVEL II CERTIFICATE CLASSES
This spring we will be offering three courses in the Landscape Horticulture: 200 Common Landscape Plants series: Evergreen Trees and Shrubs in April/May in Anne Arundel Co., Shade Trees in June in Harford Co., and Ornamental Trees and Vines in June in Howard Co.

Dates: Thursdays: April 24, May 1, May 15, and May 22 (field trip)

Course Description: Yews, spruces, pines, chamaecyparis, hollies, arborvitae, firs and more. How can you tell the difference between a dwarf Japanese holly and boxwood? Can they both be used as a low hedge plant? Is Canadian hemlock still a good plant for Maryland landscapes? Will deciduous holly grow in dry places? Learn this, how to use these plants in the landscape, and more in this advanced training class on Maryland’s most popular landscape plants (about 45 plants).
Each student will receive a copy of Common Maryland Landscape Plants, a practical guide to selecting woody plants for Maryland gardens.
Suggested Class Textbook: Michael Dirr’s Manual of Woody Landscape Plants: Their Identification, Ornamental Characteristics.

Course Description: Spring is a beautiful time to study Shade Trees! Join us as we learn ID and cultural information for about 40 of our most common shade trees. You’ll learn how to tell the difference between one maple or oak and another, which shade trees last the longest, grow the fastest, are the most pest resistant.
Each student will receive a copy of Common Maryland Landscape Plants, a practical guide to selecting woody plants for Maryland gardens.

Course Description:
This class will cover approximately 45 ornamental trees and vines. We will go over identifying characteristics, distinguish between confusing look-alikes, and discuss cultural requirements and use in the landscape.
Each student will receive a copy of Common Maryland Landscape Plants, a practical guide to selecting woody plants for Maryland gardens.

To get the Master Gardener Woody Plant Level II Certification you must complete the following 5 courses: One Plant ID/Taxonomy class and each of the four Landscape Horticulture: 200 Common Landscape Plants
- Evergreen Trees and Shrubs
- Flowering Shrubs
- Ornamental Trees and Vines
- Shade Trees
It is recommended that you take the ID/Taxonomy course first, but can take the courses in any order and at any location.
