9. Highlights from 2005:
Worcester County hosts a number of events to provide the Master Gardeners a chance to earn their volunteer hours. Together the total number of hours provided by the Master Gardeners is 412. The volunteer hours provide a savings of $18.04 per hour in 2005 according to an independent account bringing the total number of dollars saved to $7,432.48. The various projects include:
• Ask A Master Gardener Plant Clinic at the Ocean Pines Library on Tuesday afternoons during the growing season.
• All county fairs have plant clinics and many of the Master Gardeners are judges for the flowers and vegetables
• The Taylor House Museum in Berlin, MD has a historic garden that is maintained by Master Gardeners
• Showeell Elementary School and Stephen Decatur High School had Master Gardeners teach plant care, designed & planted gardens with the students at the schools.
• Ocean Pines Community Garden and PinTail Park have been cared for by Master Gardeners
Wicomico County hosts a number of events as well. Together the total number of hours provided by the Master Gardeners are 167.5, providing $3,021.70 in savings to the county. The various projects include:
• Ask a Master Gardener Plant Clinic at the Salisbury Farmers Market on Saturday mornings during the growing season.
• All county fairs have plant clinics and many of the Master Gardeners are judges for the flowers and vegetables
• Pemberton Park is a historical home with a working farm, a small vegetable garden and a herb garden. The Master Gardeners care for the vegetable and herb garden.
