8. Highlights from 2005:
Master Gardeners coordinated and ran a rain-barrel workshop which resulted in 12 members of the public taking home their own rain –barrels and brought in $700 for the Master Gardener program.
Master Gardeners organized and staffed an ‘Ask a Master Gardener booth’ at the Queen Anne’s county Fair. 120 members of the public received answers to environmental horticulture questions as well as information on HGIC and the Master Gardener program.
A team of Master Gardeners worked with nearby Kent Co. library to implement a native plant garden. The plants in the garden are identified and signage explains the site to patrons of the Library.
Several master Gardeners worked with teacher Lee Franklin to integrate an ecology group into the Jr. Master Gardener program. 73 children were introduced to principles of ecology and horticulture during 8 weeks of after school programs, 2 hydrology presentations and the culminating creation of a butterfly garden at Kennard Elementary School.
Master Gardeners organized and Team taught a six week horticulture course for the Institute of Adult Learning at Chesapeake College. Topics included Rain Gardens, IPM, and Herbs among others. Over 20 people were educated on these subjects.
