8. Highlights from past year:


The Landscape Design Group worked with six schools, a historic cemetery and a County public housing community, assisting them improve the appearance of their grounds and facilities. Projects ranged from a grounds review to a detailed landscape design plan of one or more areas.

The Demonstration Gardens, at the Montgomery County Cooperative Extension office and at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, continued to showcase plants and turf that can be grown successfully in Montgomery County requiring less use of fertilizers and chemicals.

The Speakers group made 59 presentations to over 1600 people, representing about 765 hours of preparation and presenting time.  Their annual mini-conference of workshops was attended 79 participants.

Plant Clinics volunteers assisted well over 1000 clients who visited our six sites.

The Telephone Hotline, manned by 59 volunteers, provided over 1500 hours of advice to 1120 county residents.

Therapeutic Horticulture’s community outreach programs taught horticulture and shared its pleasures and benefits with special needs youth and seniors at 15 locations throughout the county.
