Subject: Montgomery County Master Gardener Program Mr. Silverman:
The purpose of this e-mail is to advise The County Council, that we have recently used the services of the “Montgomery County Master Gardeners.” We were delighted with the help they provided us in designing a garden area in front of our District Station.
As you know the 1st District Station [Rockville] building is quite old and unfortunately somewhat dreary in appearance. This summer we basically had a very ugly weed patch growing at the entrance to the station. When the weeds were finally pulled we ended up with a very dusty and unsightly dirt patch. We decided to try and design a garden that would be low cost & low maintenance but welcoming to the public. After several false starts we realized that we did not have the knowledge, skills or abilities to design such a garden. At this point, at our request, the “Master Gardeners” stepped in to save us. We met with them twice and in the end they designed a beautiful garden, that will serve our needs hopefully until this building is torn down and a new station is built. The Master Gardeners were invaluable to us in getting this project on the right track. We are now working to bring their plan to fruition.
I am told the Master Gardeners rely to some extent on partial funding from Montgomery County. To this extent I’d like to suggest that to whatever extent funding is possible, this program appears to be a worthwhile and constructive use of County Funds.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
