Become a Master Gardener

Why become a Master Gardener?

Prince George's County Master Gardeners are a diverse group of individuals with a variety of interests, backgrounds and levels of gardening experience. Our county is large but members usually become involved in interesting volunteer projects near their homes. We come together monthly to learn from speakers and each other, and to share experiences, plants, food and camaraderie.  By sharing our time, effort and knowledge through participating in various volunteer projects, we reap some of the rich rewards that come from our service: meeting new people, sharing our experiences, and watching a project come to fruition.

How do I become a Master Gardener?

Prince George's County Master Gardeners complete a training program which includes classroom sessions, passing a test, and volunteering 40 hours the first year in approved activities in Prince George's County.  Taught by Maryland Cooperative Extension specialists, educators and other horticultural experts, training classes are held once or twice a year at the Extension Office in Clinton, either during the day or on an evening schedule. There is a fee which covers the cost of supplies and the required textbook.
